In case you never heard of Amsterdam’s ‘de 9 straatjes’ (the 9 streets) yet: they are located in the centre of the canal district, just a few minutes’ walk from Dam square. Nine cozy little streets full of picturesque monuments, quirky shops and wonderful eateries to wander around during your visit to Amsterdam. In case you haven’t been there yet or just don’t know where to start: we’ve collected some of our favorite spots for you.

Ace & Tate

When you’re looking for glasses or sunglasses, Ace & Tate has got loads of affordable classics to offer, designed by their own design team located in Amsterdam. Every piece is designed to be timeless which makes it kind of impossible to get out of fashion, you’ll probably be still wearing it a few years from now. Ace & Tate’s beautiful basic glasses are available in several colors. Something we absolutely love about Ace & Tate is their webshop: if you’re not around the 9 streets you can order 5 glasses in their webshop and try them on for five days before you make your decisions. For free.

MENDO

This is a candy store for book aficionados wo have a soft spot for books on architecture, interior design, fashion, photography and graphic design. Not only is the design of the store absolutely gorgeous, the book covers are at least that impressive. MENDO also offers a unique collection of XL books from David LaChapelle, Valentino, Muhammad Ali (GOAT), Vivienne Westwood and others.

Vintage shopping at Episode and Zipper

Compared to other Dutch cities you’ll nevers find as many people wearing vintage as in Amsterdam and thanks to that the amount of vintage stores is huge. Stock changes continuously depending on what’s available at that moment so there’s something new to find every single day. Two of our favorite vintage shops are located in ‘de 9 straatjes’! Episode collects the best vintage pieces from companies that sort out all the cast-offs. Zipper offers the best items of the 50’s to 80’s including amended and customized items.

Screaming Beans

When you’re looking for a nice place to drink an amazing cup of coffee in between your shopping spree, Screaming Beans is the coffee bar to go to. Since 2007 they serve the very best specialty coffee and sweet treats to go with it. For the real coffee lovers there’s an academy to learn everything about coffee or latte art by following workshops and tastings.

Wolvenstraat 23

This hangout in ‘de 9 straatjes’ is widely known by locals as a hotspot for coffee, lunch or a drink. The terrace in front is extremely small which makes it a perfect place for people spotting while drinking your coffee or having lunch. On the menu: delicious noodle soup and oysters in black bean sauce by the Chinese chef.
The name says it all: the address is Wolvenstraat 23!
These are just a few of the numerous shops and food & drink spots in the nine street. For a complete list of everything this small Amsterdam district has to offer, visit www.de9straatjes.nl. Have fun!
