Royal London Hospital
Founded in 1740 and named The London Infirmary and located in Featherstone Street, The Royal London Hospital has been in its current site on Whitechapel Road since 1757. The Royal London Hospital provides both district general hospital services for the City and specialist tertiary care for patients across London and further afield. The hospital has a wide and varied past – Joseph Merrick (also known as the ‘elephant man’) spent his last few years there, while more recently the 1994 merger of the schools of the Royal London Hospital medical school and the St Bartholomew’s Hospital has produced many outstanding nurse leaders and educators – building on the respected history of the two schools.
