Cut Festival: London Barbers

cut

The classic British sitcom Desmond’s was infamously set in a Peckham barbershop back in the 90s, but with half of London now rocking a skin fade and side parting complete with groomed beard, clearly the importance of barbering is still high today. This ten-day event celebrates the places where men (and increasingly women and LGBT+ individuals) go to talk rubbish, hang out and get themselves together for the weekend. From the Turkish barbers on every corner to East London favourites like Rocket Barbers the short-back- and-sides specialists, via Afro-Caribbean shops Desmond Ambrose would be proud of; it’s all on show during Cut Festival’s 10 days of pay-what- you-can haircuts, speeches, plays, audio art and more curated by live artist Jamie Lewis Hadley (it also happens to be right around the corner from Qbic, so well worth a visit).
