Five Best Pop-up Dining Experiences in London

dinerama

East London loves pop-ups, and over the years the pop-uppers have really honed their skills and crafted some pretty fantastic experiences that drift in and out of various locations throughout the year. Here are some of our favourites for summer ‘16:

Dinerama

The people at Street Feast have more or less cracked the pop-up dining game. At Dinerama, and across three other venues (Lewisham, Dalston and Canada Water), they’ve turned derelict yards into vibey watering holes with craft beer and cracking street food. From crispy duck burgers and duck-fat chips at Duck n’ Roll to impeccable pork belly buns at Yum Bun, the only downside to this place is the FOMO you will have while you watch others tucking into food that you passed over; the ones that got away. There is indoor and outdoor seating, a wine bar, a whiskey bar and a good old fashioned regular bar.

Where: Dinerama, Shoreditch Yard,19 Great Eastern Street, London EC2,
When: Every Thu/Fri/Sat/Sun: Noon – Late
How much: Free before 7pm, £3 after
Nearest Tube: Old Street

Jimmy’s BBQ Club

This one isn’t east London, but it’s totally worth a journey on the Northern Line. It’s the British barbecue done right. The setting is an uncharacteristically rural garden in Clapham’s old town, where diners can drink, eat and cook together in communal tables. The menu consists of four beautifully curated courses, from lighter vegetarian dishes with fresh vegetables grown in the garden to the showstopping cuts of beef and tuna steak. It’s an interactive and overall lovely experience that will be make for a fine summer’s evening. Oh, and it’s also BYOB for god’s sake. Get on this one ASAP, tickets are going fast.

Where: 33 Iveley Rd, London SW4 0EN
When: Wednesday – Friday Until September
How Much: £38 per person
Nearest Tube: Clapham Common

Urban Food Fest

A short stroll down Great Eastern Street from Dinerama, the people at Urban Food Fest have turned something awful (a car park) into something fantastic (a food market). Wood-fired oven pizzas and Brazilian chorizo wraps can be washed down with champagne and cocktails, or finished off with some homemade macarons. There’s live music, djs and fancy dress on occasion. A lively one for sure.

When: Every Saturday, Midday – Midnight
Where: Euro Car Parks 162-167 Shoreditch High Street, Shoreditch, London, E1 6HU
How Much: Free entry
Nearest Tube: Old Street

Red market

Completing Shoreditch’s trifecta of street-food greatness is Red Market. They don’t skimp on the entertainment here with live dj sets, screens for a jam-packed summer of sport and even a bloody 9-hole crazy-golf course. Despite all of this, food remains to be the main attraction, with crackin burgers from Yeah Burger and soft shell crab burgers from Crabbie Shack. Like its neighbouring markets above, there is also plenty to offer in the way of booze with five different bars serving craft beer and cocktails.

When: Thursday and Friday 6pm until 11:30pm, Saturday from 4pm – 11.30pm Until 28 August
Where: 288 Old St, London EC1V 9LA
Nearest Tube: Old Street

Hip-hop brunch

This one is not for the faint of heart. The pick of London’s boozy brunches, this is as close as you’ll come to Notorious B.I.G’s house on a Saturday morning: delicious and indulgent fried foods, bangin hip-hop beats and more alcohol than you should reasonably take in before lunchtime. There’s hip-hop karaoke to keep you entertained and an hour of bottomless cocktails. There’s a good chance you’ll find yourself doing the stanky leg without meaning to, or even knowing what the stanky leg is. Loose as a southern goose.

When: Every Saturday until August 27
Where: Secret location revealed every Tuesday before the event
How much: £40. Includes 3 course brunch and bottomless cocktails between 12-1
