It’s no surprise the Damien Hirst is a fan of Jeff Koons. The American artist was kicking up art-world controversy way back when Damien’s shark was still on its training fins. Gargantuan puppies made from flowers, super-camp porn-star portraits, million-dollar balloon animals; each year Koons came up with a new way of enraging the classical art cognoscenti and you can bet Hirst was taking notes. So when he came into a bit of cash, Hirst started collecting Koons’ work and we’re going to get a chance to see the results of his largesse with this show of his favourite pieces at Hirst’s own Newport Street Gallery. It’s heavy on the inflatables (if you’ll excuse the pun) but also features some less well known works, including, whisper it, some actual drawings. Two bad-taste superstars in perfect harmony – this is going to be fun.
