A city pub – upmarket but good value – with huge portions of British classics, think lots of gravy and big steaks. On our visit the outdoor drinking area is dominated by Aperol Spritz drinking city workers, but as the evening progresses so does the clientele – or perhaps our judgment slips. Either way, the slow roasted shoulder of lamb falls off the bone and the fish stew is loaded with mussels, smoked cod and prawns – both meals are big enough to feed a family. Don’t bother with sides!
Although not a destination in and of itself, Leman Street Tavern is a safe bet if you’re in the area and craving comfort. The wide bar makes for a good spot to meet someone for a drink, whiskey and beer tastings are held here at a regular basis, should you need some guidance.
