There aren’t a huge number of New York style ‘tap rooms’ in London, so it’s lucky that one of the finest – Mother Kelly’s – is just up the road from Qbic under a railway arch in Bethnal Green.
At the back of the stripped back space you’ll quickly realise why it’s called a taproom – there’s a rather ominous looking line of taps behind the bar, each numbered 1-24. If you’re a beer boff you’ll be in heaven; that’s what comes out the vast majority of the taps. If you’re not, don’t fear. The bar stuff are happy to help with your decision (each number lines up with a different, sometimes experimental, beer on the menu).
If beer isn’t you’re thing, there’s also a smaller selection of cider and some rather strong homemade gin.
