Billed as London’s first ‘Department of Dining’ there are five areas at The Kitty Hawk to get your chops, lips or both around. Comprising a bar and kitchen, grill restaurant, cocktail bar, private dining room and coffee bar. It’s undeniably impressive. The decor from Russell Sage is elegant, impeccably executed and comfortable, a mix of polished concrete and even more polished decorative features. A serious multi-format dining venture, it’s the first move from the Imbiba-backed Wright & Bell group who are planning more such ‘departments’.
We dove in at both ends of the steak and seafood restaurant, although it must be noted that there is a distinctly meaty weighting here. The food was rich and robust. The 6oz West Country steak soft and flavoursome, the tender salt-baked sea bream ceremoniously cracked open tableside, the wilted spinach with nutmeg paired nicely if a little salty, and the chocolate cake with honeycomb a fittingly decadent end. Service was cheerfully excellent.
This is in the heart of the City, so do expect a sea of suits. There’s a wide swig range for those boozy lunches (it’s closed at the weekends btw). If open fires excite, linger around the cocktail bar’s uber-stylish blue flames.
