It used to be that when I thought of Craft, the first thing I thought of was beer. Delicious, hoppy, yummy, fairly pretentious beer that got me drunk and made me happy. Then I moved in with my girlfriend and she is what they call a “knitter”. To Knitters, craft is a decidedly less alcoholic proposition. To her, Craft is all about “wool” and “counting stitches” and “having an opinion about yarn”. I must admit though, it’s a point of view that results in something slightly more permanent than a hangover. It creates something beautiful and useful, something that people will enjoy and celebrate as a positive and functional part of their lives. So I for one celebrate the arrival of London Craft Week, a whole week dedicated to the best of British Craft. With 230 events in diverse locations like the V&A and The House of Lords, London Craft Week fuses making with design, fashion, art, luxury, food, culture and shopping. See you there! (I’ll be the one in the excellently knitted hat and scarf that I TOTALLY want to wear.)
