Luxury shopping

When we say shopping in Amsterdam, most people think of the Albert Cuyp, the Kalverstraat and the PC Hooftstraat, three well-known shopping streets in Amsterdam. On these streets you will find every big department store and all of the big brands. The P.C. Hooftstraat, which is situated near Museum Square, is perfect for a luxurious shopping spree. All big clothing brands and designers are represented on this high-end street. You can also spot a lot of famous Dutchies here.

The P.C. Hooftstraat is intersected by the Van Baerlestraat, where everything is just as luxurious. If you are looking for Dutch designers like Frans Molenaar and Mart Visser, this is the place to be. Are you hunting for bargains? The Amsterdamsche Fashion Outlet at the Willemsparkweg – a side street of the Van Baerlestraat – has a permanent sale.

The Willemsparkweg ends in the Cornelis Schuytstraat, where you will find the flagship store of the fashionable Superdry Mode as well as Buise, where ladies can shop an entire outfit including accessories. Around the corner of Qbic Hotel Amsterdam WTC you will find the Beethovenstraat, a chic shopping street with exclusive fashion stores like Claudia Sträter and a variety of nice specialty shops such as DeDe’s Underworld, a luxury store with lingerie and underwear for men and women.

Within the canal belt you will find the Utrechtsestraat, a crowded shopping street where designer shops meet local shops. Since forever, the exclusive shoe store Zwartjes van 1883 can be found here. In this street you can also visit Marc by Marc Jacobs, the only one in the Netherlands. If you are tired of shopping, be sure to visit one of the nice cafes or (Asian) restaurants, or one of the many specialty shops and delicatessens that offer a lot of delights.

Vintage shops

Amsterdam is not only for lovers of brands. Vintage and retro enthusiasts can also shop till they drop at the many shops that are trendy, hip and affordable. Vintage has lost its image of worn out second hand clothing a long time ago. A lot of affordable vintage clothing is coming from the P.C. and more than half of it is never or hardly worn.

De Negen Straatjes (the Nine Streets), indicating the nine intersecting streets between the Leidestraat and the Raadhuisstraat, form a paradise for vintage lovers. At Episode in the Berenstraat you will find good clothing from the fifties until the eighties. Laura Dols in the Wolvenstraat is specialised in (chic) clothing from the fifites and earlier.

Except from the boutiques –it’s impossible to name them all as there are so many – you can also shop vintage clothes at the permanent market on the Waterlooplein. You will find a lot of trendy second hand clothing there, as well as at the Noordermarkt which has a special vintage market every Monday.

Spending the weekend shopping? Stay the night in Qbic!

If you really want to shop to your heart’s content, one day will not be enough. You can visit the Amsterdam shopping area every day of the week, even on weekends. Shops are open from 9am – 5pm on Saturday and from 12pm – 5pm on Sunday. Visiting on Monday? Please note that most of the stores aren’t open until noon.

The trendy Qbic Hotel Amsterdam WTC is an ideal base for a weekend or a midweek stay. The metro stops in front of the door, which makes it unnecessary to haul those big bags. Around the corner of our hotel you will find the Beethovenstraat, which is one of the nicest shopping streets in Amsterdam. From this street you can walk to the high-end shopping streets in the Oud-Zuid neighbourhood. Moreover, staying at our affordable hotel means you will have more money left to spend!
