During the Amsterdam Gay Pride there are parties going on in every corner of the city, and a lot of Amsterdam clubs and bars will be Gay Pride-themed. Most of the festivities are taking place in the first weekend of August. If you’re visiting, be sure to watch the Canal Parade; it’s the best part of the Gay Pride. This colourful parade through the Amsterdam canals takes place on August 2 and ends on Sunday with a big party on Rembrandt Square.
This first weekend of August, Amsterdam will be crowded with party people from all over the world and the ones that are taking part in the Canal Parade. The first weekend of August is expected to be one of the busiest weekends of the year.
Want to stay the night in Amsterdam during the Gay Pride 2014? Then you would do well to book a room at Qbic Hotels Amsterdam WTC before everyone else does!
The Amsterdam Gay Pride, Gay Pride or simply Amsterdam Pride was first held in 1996. The first Amsterdam Gay Pride was set up as an ode to Amsterdam as a capital of freedom and liberty as well as solidarity and tolerance. Homosexuality is not as common in other cultures and countries though. In Russia for example, being gay is not acceptable at all. And in Uganda, gay people have recently been outlawed.
Even in the Netherlands, gay people are not always as accepted as you might think. The past year there were a few cases of physical abuse against homosexuals that have reached the news. In fact, physical abuse against homosexuals happens three times a week in our country.

The highlight of the Gay Pride is the Canal Parade, which used to be named the Gay Parade. As always, this parade of boats takes place on the first Saturday of August. The Canal Parade is a colourful parade of boats passing through the Amsterdam canals. This year a Moroccan, a Jewish and an American boat will be sailing on for the first time. The route starts at the Westerdok harbour and will pass the Prinsengracht, the Amstel, the Zwanenburgwal and the Oudeschans, ending at the Oosterdok.

Like we said, most of the hotels in Amsterdam will be completely overbooked, especially the ones in the centre. Qbic Hotel Amsterdam WTC situated on the South Axis is a perfect alternative.
