This colourful parade through the Amsterdam canals takes place on August 2 and ends on Sunday with a big party on Rembrandt Square.

The Amsterdam Gay Pride, Gay Pride or simply Amsterdam Pride was first held in 1996. The first Amsterdam Gay Pride was set up as an ode to Amsterdam as a capital of freedom and liberty as well as solidarity and tolerance. The highlight of the Gay Pride is the Canal Parade, which used to be named the Gay Parade. As always, this parade of boats takes place on the first Saturday of August. The Canal Parade is a colourful parade of boats passing through the Amsterdam canals. This year a Moroccan, a Jewish and an American boat will be sailing on for the first time. The route starts at the Westerdok harbour and will pass the Prinsengracht, the Amstel, the Zwanenburgwal and the Oudeschans, ending at the Oosterdok.
