If you find yourself in Amsterdam this winter, you can enjoy the many winter fun activities over the Christmas period and the Christmas spirit that invigorates the city. We are really looking forward to the festive season and all the magical experiences that this time of year brings with it. Will you be staying overnight in Amsterdam this Christmas time? Then we have some great tips about what you can do in Amsterdam this Christmas season.

Amsterdam Light Festival

From 28 November 2015 until 17 January 2016, the Amsterdam Light Festival will illuminate the dark winter nights with a display of light sculptures along the canals in the canal district. Boat tours depart daily (with the exception of New Year’s Eve) and will take you across the Oosterdok, Herengracht, Nieuwe Herengracht, and the Amstel river. If you prefer to walk then the beautiful Illuminade walking route is for you! This route takes you along the east side of the canal district through the Weesper and Plantage neighbourhoods. You can read more about the Amsterdam Light Festival here.

Ice skating

Ice skating: is there any sport that is more closely associated with Dutch winters? From 13 November 2015, you can visit the ice skating rink on Leidseplein square. Only a week later, on 21 November 2015, the beautiful ice skating rink on the Museumplein square in front of the Rijksmuseum will also be opened. If you would prefer to skate long and fast laps on a 400-metre track, then you should visit the Jaap Eden Ijsbaan ice rink. This is the largest and most well-known ice rink in Amsterdam with an outside track and covered hall where you can skate from October until March.

Winterparade

The Winterparade is a combination of theatre, divine food, and being together. At this dinner, which is served at a 120 metre-long table, you will enjoy a four-course meal that is accompanied by live entertainment performed by actors, dancers, and musicians right on the table. These are each short performances where artists climb onto the table with the chefs and servers and create a true parade of wonder and delight. The dinner is completed by dancing on the table to the music provided by Silent Disco by 433fm. You can buy your tickets for the Winterparade at their website.

If these events are making you wish for the winter months, we still have a few rooms available at Qbic for the most wonderful time of the year! We hope to see you soon!
