Fier Amsterdam is situated in the Klinkerbuurt and is one of the best cheap restaurants in Amsterdam. Their menu offers typical Belgian-Limburgisch meals like “zuurvlees” (a sweet and sour stew made from horse meat or beef) and confit duck. The menu may look quite simple, but the ingredients, preparation and portion sizes completely make up for that. Different kinds of fries, potatoes and vegetables are available with every meal so you can pick your own side dish. This makes the slightly plain looking menu a lot more diverse. The sociable atmosphere and the hospitable service make you feel very welcome at Fier each time you set foot in this fine restaurant.

La Cubanita is one of the best Cuban restaurants in Amsterdam. From Sunday to Monday they have all you can eat tapas for €17.50 pp. Cold tapas, meat tapas, fish tapas, vegetarian tapas… a lot of tapas. Of course you can also ‘just’ order all these delicious things à la carte. And what do you need to wash away these dishes? That’s right, a 1 litre jug of Sangria for €12.50. Is there any other place in Amsterdam where food and drinks taste this good and don’t cost you more than fifty euros?!

No, Firma Pekelhaaring is not what you think it is. Instead of being a brine company, this is a modern cafe/restaurant where you will find mostly ‘rural’ Italian dishes, with the occasional French dish on the menu. Good food, nothing more and nothing less. Your plate will not be fancy looking, but it will be full. When it comes to their pasta, you can choose between a small and a large portion size. What’s more is that you can order from the menu during the entire day, so that you can have dinner in the afternoon and lunch in the evening. You can enjoy a 3-course dinner for less than €35.

Not only is The Bierfabriek (‘beer factory’) one of the best cheap restaurants in Amsterdam; it’s also a real beer factory. Right in the middle of this unconventional restaurant, two types of special beer are being brewed: Rosso and Nero. The restaurant has tapping tables where you can tap your own beer and have a meal at the same time. About the food: it’s great! Let’s call it burgundian. Also, they are cooking with mostly organic food, like the organic spit roasted farm chicken. It is being marinated for 24 hours in a mix of olive oil, fresh herbs and homemade beer.

The last on our list, but surely not the least: Eetcafé ’t Pakhuis. This diner is frequently visited by students who crave one of the house specialties: spare ribs, satay skewers Royal or the friendly priced day platter. Their schnitzel is incredibly cheap, as is the steak. Their royal sized portions of fries and salad make sure you won’t be leaving with an empty stomach.
